Education Policy Outlook 2021 for Responsiveness and Resilience in Education Policy aims to support policy makers to balance the urgent challenge of building eco-systems that adapt in the face of disruption and change (resilience), and the important challenge of navigating the ongoing evolution from industrial to post-industrial societies and economies (responsiveness).

Research from international large-scale assessments (ILSAs) shows that the achievement gaps between girls and boys in mathematics and science have narrowed or vanished. Nonetheless, girls are less likely to aspire a career in the mathematics related field according to the latest compass brief.

Responses to Educational Disruption Survey (REDS) is an IEA and UNESCO study, in collaboration with the European Commission. This study draws a more complete picture of the pandemic’s impact on education worldwide. Insights from REDS data can better orient and tailor policy responses to strengthen education system resilience, especially during disruptions to schooling. The Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) measures adults’ proficiency in key cognitive and workplace areas, i.e., literacy, numeracy, and problem solving. PIAAC 2nd Cycle is taking place from 2018-2024 with the participation of over 30 countries and economies. The first round of data collection will take place in 2022-2023, and the results will be published in 2024. We have recently published the Fact Sheet and Framework pages.

Within the framework of the UN Member States' 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this webinar conducted by the Center for Sustainable Futures (CSF) at Teachers College, Columbia University, will present a recently developed strategy for assessing two indicators that embody tolerance, respect and sustainable development.
