Objectives
  • Study the level of efficiency and equity of primary education systems, as well as changes in the achievement of these objectives in the countries concerned.
  • Identify those factors influencing quality and educational equity that are applicable to primary education systems, schools, teachers, and students.
  • Provide national policy makers in the Francophone countries with indicators for monitoring and mutual comparison.
  • Contribute to the country-level development of national education systems and foster research through a knowledge community.
  • Disseminate evaluation results at the national and international levels.

Students

All students formally enrolled in the early (Grade 2) and late (Grades 5 or 6) stages of primary school (formal education)

Teachers

All teachers in the schools that participated in PASEC 2019

 

SAMPLE (Intended)

Students

  • Grade 6
    • At least 180 schools
    • One classroom in each school
    • 25 students in each sampled classroom
  • Grade 2
    • At least 90 schools from the Grade 6 sample 
    • One classroom in each school
    • 16 students in each sampled classroom

All participating countries could extend their sample in order to improve subnational analysis.

ACHIEVEMENT TESTS

  • Two tests: language and mathematics
  • One common booklet
  • One-to-one administration
  • One test per day
  • Around 30 minutes per test

Grade 6

  • Two tests: language and mathematics
  • Collective administration
  • Pencil and paper
  • One test per day
  • Maximum 2 hours per test, split across 2 sessions of 1 hour each.
  • Four rotated booklets
