The SEA-PLM 2024 Regional Snapshot on Writing presents key findings on students’ ability to express ideas effectively in written form. Although optional, all participating countries implemented the writing domain, underlining its importance as a core literacy skill and a critical tool for communication, learning across subjects, and participation in society.
The Regional Snapshot accompanies the public release of the 2024 student writing datasets and complements earlier results on reading, mathematics, and contextual data released in December 2025 and available on the Gateway here.
Due to methodological differences, the results are not directly comparable with the 2019 cycle. However, both the 2019 and 2024 results remain reliable for analyzing writing performance within and across countries in their respective cycles. Further details on these comparability limitations are provided in the accompanying technical note.
