IEA Research for Education Series: Dinaric Perspectives on TIMSS 2019. Teaching and Learning Mathematics and Science in South-Eastern Europe

The thirteenth volume of the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) Research for Education series brings together national experts from across the Dinaric region to review IEA’s TIMSS 2019 grade four data to develop a multidimensional and culturally sensitive perspective on their TIMSS 2019 primary-level results. The Dinaric region—the regional emphasis of the current volume—is named after the Dinaric Alps in South-eastern Europe which stretches from Slovenia through Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Albania, and North Macedonia.

The book compares the neighboring education systems and provides information on the relationship between student attitudes and achievement; the impact of early literacy and numeracy; the role of learning resources and school climate; the relationship between teacher quality, instructional practices, and student achievement; and the differences between urban and rural schools in the Dinaric region.
