John Holden describes in his article that the gender gap in reading is considerable where statistics from multiple studies show that girls are more avid readers and likely to be better at it than in math, where as boys are found to be better in math than in reading. The reason for girls to be involved in non-technical careers is more likely not because they are bad in Stem subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), but because they are better at other subjective skills such as reading. Efforts to bridge this gap are known to be effective if girls at a very young age (approximately younger than 4 years of age) are prompted and encouraged to pursue mathematics and science.
