TIMSS 2023: International Results in Mathematics and Science Released

As the longest-running large-scale international assessment, TIMSS evaluates fourth- and eighth-grade students in mathematics and science. Highlights from the 2023 report include:

  • Achievement benchmarks: Substantial percentages of students globally meet at least the low international benchmarks in mathematics and science knowledge.
  • Gender gaps: Compared to 2019, TIMSS 2023 reveals increased gender disparities, particularly in fourth-grade mathematics.
  • Attitude and performance: Positive attitudes toward mathematics and science correlate with higher achievement, though enthusiasm declines significantly by eighth grade.
  • Socioeconomic influences: Students with greater home resources consistently achieve higher results than their peers with fewer resources.

Coming Soon: The TIMSS 2023 International Database (IDB), including achievement and process data in SPSS, SAS, and R formats, will be released on Thursday, 06 February 2025, alongside the TIMSS 2023 User Guide.
