CIES Calls for an Outstanding Scholarly Article, Dissertation, Book, and Emerging Scholar

In the context of its annual conference, the CIES awards prizes for research that addresses social justice, gender, and multiculturalism, among other topics. Each prize is awarded with $1000 USD.

Call for an outstanding scholarly article: Joyce Cain Award

An outstanding scholarly article that explores themes related to people of African descent shall be honored with the Joyce Cain Award. To be eligible for the Award, articles must be written by a member of CIES and be published in a refereed journal between January 2020 and December 2021. Articles intended for publication in 2021 may be submitted as well.

Call for an outstanding doctoral dissertation: Gail P. Kelly Award

An outstanding Ph.D. or Ed.D. dissertation that addresses social justice and equity issues in an international context shall be honored with the Gail P. Kelly Award. Only dissertations written in English and submitted to the respective university body between July 2020 and August 2021 can be nominated.

Call for an outstanding book: Jackie Kirk Award

An outstanding book related to gender and education, education in conflict (post-conflict, fragile states, and/or peace education) shall be honored with the Jackie Kirk Award. The book must be published in 2020 or 2021. Books can be written/edited by non-CIES members.

Call for an emerging scholar: Elizabeth Sherman Swing Award

An emerging scholar who is conducting research on the policies or practices of multiculturalism and/or multilingualism in Europe and is planning to present this research at the annual CIES conference shall be honored with the Elizabeth Sherman Swing Award. The prize shall be awarded to someone either in the final year of Ph.D./Ed. studies or in an early career post-Ph.D./Ed.D. for up to five years. An unpublished paper, accepted for presentation at the next CIES conference, is required.

Any CIES full member may nominate candidates for these awards, self-nominations are welcome. Nominations, applications, and queries should be sent via e-mail to the Office of the Executive Director at latest by December 1, 2021.
