Theme
“Unforgetting Histories and Imagining Futures: Constructing a New Vision for Education Research”
Introduction
The American Educational Research Association (AERA) invites education researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to its 2026 Annual Meeting in Los Angeles. This year's theme encourages participants to reflect on how disciplinary and methodological diversity can be leveraged to "unforget" histories that inform current educational challenges and to envision policies and practices that enable thriving futures for learners across various contexts.
The meeting aims to foster dialogues that are inclusive, critical, and forward-looking, addressing topics such as teaching and learning in an era of polycrisis, politicization of education, historiographies of education, transforming education policy, neurodiversity and ability justice, climate justice and sustainability, restorative and transformative justice, equity-oriented scholarship examining intersectionality, civic education, democratic engagement, and the future of ethnic studies.
