IEA Compass: Computational Thinking, Socioeconomic Gaps, and Policy Implications

IEA Compass: Briefs in Education Series addresses issues of interest to a broad range of educational stakeholders, especially those involved in influencing educational decision and policymaking. 

The January 2021 Number 12 IEA Compass brief “Computational Thinking, Socioeconomic Gaps, And Policy Implications” talks about the comparison of the socioeconomic gap in computer and information literacy (CIL) with the corresponding one in computational thinking (CT) based on IEA ICILS 2018 data. The results consistently show that students from less advantaged backgrounds have lower skill levels than those from more advantaged backgrounds in both areas, but especially in CT.
